|The Communication Room by Adam Aresty
Leonard Ackerman lies low in a mysterious lab filled with strange communications devices and telephones -- a last-ditch experiment to save Earth from an alien invasion. Then the first telephone rings. The only thing Ackerman can do is answer...
In this tale of post-apocalyptic survival, Leonard Ackerman works at a remote army base trying to solve the greatest threat facing mankind -- an alien invasion has eroded our species down to very few numbers. His base is compromised, and Ackerman retreats to a laboratory he has never been seen, locking himself there with the enemy right outside his door. Inside the lab are thirteen telephones -- from the American civil war through to Ackerman’s present day.
This laboratory seems to be some sort of closed experiment, and Ackerman discovers that he cannot exit the lab until the experiment has run its course. The method and ultimate goal of the test is beyond his reach for now... but the first telephone rings and the only thing Ackerman can do is answer...
Will Ackerman be able to find some chink in the armor of the relentless and seemingly invincible menace that destroys the human body and shatters the mind of everyone it touches? Or is Ackerman simply the last victim standing?
|The Debt Collector: LIRIUM by Susan Kaye Quinn
What's your life worth on the open market?
In this sexy, gritty future-noir, debt collectors take your life energy and give it to someone more "worthy"... all while paying the price with black marks on their souls.
Lirium plays the part of the grim reaper well, with his dark trenchcoat and jackboots—he's just in it for his cut, ten percent of the life energy he collects before he transfers it on to the high potentials, people who will make the world a better place with their work and their lives. That hit of life energy, a bottle of vodka, and a visit from one of Madam Anastazja's girls keep him alive, stable, and mostly sane... until he collects again. But when his recovery ritual is disrupted, he has to choose between doing an illegal hit for a girl whose story has more holes than his soul or facing the bottle alone—a dark pit he's not sure he'll be able to climb out of again.

|Sketches by Teyla Branton
Someone will do anything to stop them from learning the truth.
Eighty years after Breakdown, Detective Reese Parker has pulled herself up from the dregs of society in Welfare Colony 6 to become a sketch artist and enforcer for the CORE (Commonwealth Objective for Reform and Efficiency). She works hard with other enforcers to maintain peace and order among the CORE's two million residents, especially against the radiation-crazed outsiders called fringers.
But Reese hides a secret she can never share with anyone, a secret that killed her father and ruined the life of the person she once loved more than anyone.
When a new assignment sends Reese to Amarillo City, near where she grew up, she's partnered with Jaxon Tennant on the Violent Crimes Investigation Unit, and she knows her secret won't stay secret long. Somehow their past is connected to missing scientists and programmers, but all leads go nowhere: evidence disappears, witnesses change testimony, and names vanish from the CORE database.
Someone is willing to do anything to stop Reese and her former Colony 6 crew from discovering the truth behind what has been done to them—and thousands of others. To learn what they have become, Reese and her friends must go against the very foundations of the society they serve. There is no going back.

|The Good Crash: An Oral History of the Post-Scarcity Collapse by R. Vondersnitch
APRIL, 2028—Global capitalism has collapsed. America has sealed itself off from the outside world, and inside its borders, a revolution rages.
All it took was one incredible little machine. That machine turned into two, then four, then eight... like a virus, the replicators spread.
As a work of oral history, The Good Crash features over 50 interviews with key witnesses to the events of 2027. The text is rendered in the language used by the interviewees themselves, with light editing for clarity and concision. As such, the book contains language and some themes that are not appropriate for children.
By capturing the voices to the people at the very root of the revolution, journalist and historian R. Vondersnitch has traced the origins and aftermath of the replicators' rapid spread. Crucially, the book also includes perspectives and testimony from those who attempted to stop the spread of the reps. "Some of these are heroes, too, in their own ways," the author writes in the book's introductory note.

Whether they succeed or fail, the fact remains that the balance of power in the galaxy has shifted and nothing will ever be the same.
